Teeth may become brown, pink or grey as a result of trauma or root canal treatment. If the cause of discolouration is trauma, root canal treatment is performed first; then bleaching is applied.

If the discolouration occurs after root canal treatment, the tooth is examined by X-ray. If there is no problem in the root canal treatment, bleaching is performed, if the root canal treatment is problematic, root canal treatment may need to be renewed first and then bleaching is performed.
